Xiaomi is the latest company that is planning to launch phones with extremely curved panels, the so-called ‘Waterfall’ displays. The company released a teaser on Weibo, while Ice Universe cleared things out for us.
Xiaomi phones with ‘Waterfall’ displays are coming, and they’ll be curved on all four sides
Ice Universe is a well-known tipster, and he reshared Xiaomi’s image on Twitter, while offering an explanation. The company is teasing the arrival of “4-curved waterfall screen technology”. It is essentially teasing smartphones featuring such displays.
Xiaomi has been releasing devices with curved displays for quite some time now. Its flagship-grade smartphones offered such panels, and it seems like the company will take things a step further soon.
Several other OEMs already tried using ‘waterfall’ displays, most notably, Huawei. Well, Xiaomi may do things a bit differently, though. Ice Universe tips that those displays will feature curves on all four sides, and we’re talking about heavy curves.
Huawei did dabble with that as well, but by the sound of this, the bottom and top curves on the panels Xiaomi is teasing will be a bit more pronounced than what we’ve seen thus far. We’re still not sure, though.
The side curves, however, will be extreme, as you’d expect out of a ‘waterfall’ device. It would be interesting to see a device that features such heavy curves on all four sides, that would be a first.
Such devices may not be practical, but they’ll look quite sleek
Many people would say that’s not the best way to do things, as it’s not practical. Well, that may be the case, but it will look very nice, and probably gain quite a bit of attention, at the very least.
Xiaomi likes to experiment with odd smartphone designs, and this may belong in that category. The very first device with such a display is expected to land later today. It’ll probably be some sort of a concert smartphone, similar to the company’s Mi MIX devices. Stay tuned for that.
