Anker Eyes Streaming Market, Teases New Android TV Device

Anker appears to be gearing up to launch a brand new Android TV dongle for the streaming market under the Nebula branding. That’s based on recent reports, highlighting a tweet shared by Anker Japan. The Twitter post showcases a single image of the streaming hardware, which the company is calling the “Nebula 4K Streaming Dongle.”

Are there any details for the Anker Android TV dongle?

Anker Japan also goes so far as to rattle off several features to expect from the new gadget. Not only will the Nebula 4K Streaming Dongle ship with the Android 10 version of Android TV. It will also support 4K streaming, as its branding implies, and Dolby Digital Plus.

The device that’s shown in the image, conversely, is fairly straightforward on the design front. The main unit is comprised of a TV-attachable dongle, shaped like a late-generation iPod Shuffle. A micro-USB port is clearly visible along the bottom, with Nebula branding placed front and center on the frame. That port will likely provide the power to the unit. And another cable embedded in the top will likely link the gadget to the TV for streaming.

The remote for the Nebula 4K Streaming Dongle should be familiar to anybody following the news surrounding Google TV. That’s because it appears to follow, down to the letter, the reference designs released by Google for partners on those products. There’s a power and source device button at the top, with Google Assistant, Bookmark, Back arrow, Home, and TV-shaped button. Those surround a circular navigation pad with a center select button in the middle.

Just below that array of buttons, Volume and Channel buttons are separated by a centered mute button. And the bottom holds dedicated app buttons for YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.

Will you ever be able to buy this gadget?

In terms of availability, Anker Japan indicates that it will launch in Japan “around September.”

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the apparently top-tier dongle will be available everywhere. Anker hasn’t revealed any plans for this gadget outside of its Japan account on the social media site. So this one may end up being limited only to Japanese buyers.
