You’ve probably seen the PS5 made of brass, but what about this custom wooden one? While the brass PS5 certainly had its own level of allure, it still looked like a PS5. As the DIY build only swapped out Sony’s white plastic outer and glossy black mid plate for brass replacements. Yet without changing the design in any way.
This customized wooden PS5 though, is a bit different. It’s creator, Matthew Perks from the YouTube channel DIY Perks, designed it to be a stealthy system. That is to say that one glance at it sitting on an entertainment center amidst the TV and other devices, and you would have no idea it’s a PS5.
That’s because it was intended to be subtle so it could easily blend in with home decor. Now, some rather like the original design of the PS5. Its futuristic aesthetic looks quite nice even if a bit monolithic at the same time. But it’s not for everyone. And that’s where this wooden version comes in. It serves as a means to almost hide the console. Which is perfect if the rest of the decor around where it’s plugged in doesn’t really match Sony’s original look.
But before you get too excited and ask where you can buy one, it’s not for sale. This is a DIY one-off build that was created for the YouTube channel specifically. But it’s still fun to look at.
This custom PS5 comes in a completely wooden shell, and everything works
One of the biggest accomplishments of this wood build compared to the brass one, aside from the stealthy look, is the fact that everything works. With the brass build, the WiFi was non-functional. Because the signal was blocked by the use of the metal, leading to the removal of the WiFi components before the build was finished.
But that isn’t a problem with this build. And to top everything off it has a few more interesting details. The wood used is American Dark Walnut. Which is accented by carbon fiber plating on the top and bottom. There’s also a hexagonal design on the top with Walnut inlays.
The coolest part though, is the hidden carbon fiber port door. This hides the open ports on the front when not in use. But it also serves as a power button to turn on the console when opened. All in all it’s a pretty neat setup that introduces a unique look. If you want to see the entire build in action, you can view it in the video above.
