Despite being speculated on for months now, Samsung‘s Galaxy A22 continues to elude the market. The device is long-rumored to arrive as the cheapest 5G phone from the Korean firm to date. However, it will be also available in a 4G variant. Now, a fresh leak has shown us how the two variants will differ in terms of design as well as specs.
Galaxy A22 vs A22 5G: What is different?
To start with, the Galaxy A22 5G will have a triple camera setup at the back. The cameras are housed in a square-shaped bump at the top-left corner of the back panel. According to the source, the primary camera is a 48-megapixel lens while the other two cameras are 5-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. There’s also an LED flash inside that camera housing.
The 4G variant of the phone, meanwhile, gets four cameras at the back. It adds another 2-megapixel sensor. Since the camera bump is identical in shape and size, there’s no room for an LED flash inside the camera housing on this phone. Instead, Samsung has placed the flash unit below the camera bump.
Moving on to the front, you’ll notice few more minor differences between the two variants of the Galaxy A22. While both models get a 6.4-inch screen, there’s some underlying difference. It’s an HD+ AMOLED panel on the 4G variant and an FHD+ LCD panel on the 5G variant. The former also gets a smaller, U-shaped notch at the center while the latter has a V-shaped notch. Moreover, the 4G model also features slightly thinner bezels, so it should boast a higher screen-to-body ratio.
The rest of the design looks identical with the volume and power buttons on the right and the SIM tray on the left. There’s a capacitive fingerprint sensor embedded into the power button on the 5G model. The 4G model likely gets an ib-display optical fingerprint sensor.
Is the 4G model a better phone?
Design-wise, the Galaxy A22 4G and A22 5G look identical but the former has a slightly premium feel to it, primarily because of thinner display bezels. It is also slimmer and lighter than the 5G model (8.5mm/185 grams vs 9.0mm/205 grams).
Considering all things, the 4G model looks a superior choice between the two so far. However, Samsung’s choice of SoCs for the phones slightly brings things to balance. The Galaxy A22 5G gets a newer and more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC while the 4G model settles for a MediaTek Helio 820 chipset. RAM and storage details are not known yet. Both models pack a 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support.
According to the source, both the 4G and 5G variants of the Galaxy A22 will be available in four color options – White, Black, Purple, and Green. It shouldn’t be very long now before the phones break cover.
