In a recent development, Google Assistant has been spotted testing a new colorful UI to make it more intuitive. Notably, along with the new colorful UI, Google Assistant is also testing one-click shortcuts.
A new compact Google Assistant UI started rolling out for users back in August 2020. The new Google Assistant UI covered the entire display and was well appreciated by users across the globe.
Fast forward to now, with the new colorful UI, Google may be trying to spruce things up and give the Assistant a little bit more personalized style. This new UI was spotted by Matthew Pirszel (via XDA).
Moreover, Matthew was able to enable this new feature ahead of the official rollout. Apparently, as per the screenshots shared by Matthew, Google Assistant changes the UI color based on the light/dark theme on your phone.
The Assistant changes color between green and blue. However, there is no clarity on why Google chose these shades based on the system theme.
But as noted, these shades of green and blue are placeholders for the upcoming Android 12 wallpaper-based theming system.
Alongside the Google Assistant colorful UI, “My Actions” shortcuts was also spotted under testing
For the unaware, the Android 12 wallpaper-based theming system will automatically change the notification shade and accent color for Quick Settings tiles based on the color of the wallpaper.
Meaning that the dominant color on your wallpaper will be the color on your notification background, etc. Besides, the new wallpaper-based theming engine also changes the Settings page and lock-screen UI color with the dominant color.
So, the change in the color of the Google Assistant UI may also be the result of this new wallpaper-based theming engine on Android 12. Whatever the reason be, it will give the Google Assistant a refreshed look.
Apart from this new colorful UI, Google Assistant is also testing “My Actions” shortcuts. This new “My Actions” shortcuts feature will allow users to trigger frequently used queries with one click.
Folks at XDA reported the tipster could get these features running on the Sony Xperia device running on Android 11. There is no further information about these new changes in Google Assistant.
It is nice to see Google sending out new features to Google Assistant. Because it matches with the upcoming Android 12 theming engine and provides symmetry to the entire UI.
It’s unclear when Google plans to send out these new features to its users. There are strong possibilities that it will be bundled with Android 12 firmware, but it could always launch this feature later in Android 12.
