Last week at Google I/O, the company announced that it would be opening its first retail store later this summer. That store has been under construction for a while, and is actually very close to opening. And if you walk by, you can see what’s going on inside – and that’s exactly what 9to5Google did. You can see some of what the inside will look like, though some of these pictures have a lot of glare making it tough to see.
However, it looks just like you’d expect a Google Store to look like.
Inside the store, there are a couple of displays showing Google’s recycling for its products. For example, how a water bottle gets recycled into a Nest Mini smart speaker. Which is really neat actually, particularly since you can see the visual of how it happened.
There are some other displays showing the recycled cases for the Pixel, as well as the Pixel 5 – which is also made from recycled material. Each window seems to represent a different portion of Google’s hardware business. With Stadia taking one, Pixel taking another, Nest Audio in another and some more Nest smart home products in a fourth.
There is a space dedicated to the Pixel inside, with different phones that you can buy. Remember the Google Store is a place where you’ll be able to experience its products, as well as purchase them. Think of it as the Google Store website, but in real life.
Opening this summer
Google said that this store will open this summer, in Chelsea. That will take up the first floor of its existing office building on 8th Ave from 15th to 16th St. It’s going to end up being a pretty large store actually, which is great since Google is continuing to add more and more products to its hardware lineup.
This will be Google’s first retail store, and it’s going to be interesting to see how it fairs. If it does well, Google may end up opening other locations around the country and the world.
