Upcoming MediaTek SoC may outperform Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 768G. The processor in question is the Dimensity 900, according to a well-known tipster. This information comes from Digital Chat Station.
The source notes that this SoC’s build number is MT6877, and that it is “temporarily named Dimensity 900”. So, that may not be its final name, but we’ll see, anything is possible.
Whatever its name ends up being, this processor is expected to succeed the Dimensity 820. Based on the information provided by the tipster, this SoC outperformed the Snapdragon 768G.
Upcoming mid-range MediaTek SoC plans to outperform the Snapdragon 768G
Based on the provided information, taken from the AnTuTu benchmark, it scored around 480,000 points. In comparison, the Snapdragon 768G, scored 440,000 points. That means that the Dimensity 900 offered a 10-percent improvement.
Now, the Snapdragon 768G is being outperformed by the Snapdragon 780G, as that chip scored 540,000 points. Still, if the Dimensity 900 ends up being so capable, quite a few smartphones may end up using it.
We’re not sure when will the MediaTek Dimensity 900 launch, though. The source did not leave any indication on when that may happen. Considering that it is already popping up on AnTuTu, we’re expecting it to arrive soon.
MediaTek’s chips are always aggressively priced, which is why many OEMs opt to use them. The company’s chips are also getting better and better, with each new iteration, so they deliver excellent performance.
The Dimensity 1200 & 1100 are MediaTek’s most powerful processors
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 and 1100, which are the company’s flagship SoC offerings, do offer excellent performance. The Dimensity 900 will be inferior to those, but also quite a bit more affordable, as it’s aimed to power mid-range phones.
MediaTek was actually the biggest smartphone chipset vendor in 2020, according to OMDIA. The company is doing great in the market, and that may continue this year as well, the first quarter sure looked promising for the company.
