Get Your Mobile Game On With The New RedMagic 6R

RedMagic has officially announced its newest gaming phone, the 6R, and it should be coming to the US later this year. As of now the device is only going to be available in China, but RedMagic does have plans for a global release.

Across the board, the RedMagic 6R is fairly similar to RedMagic’s most recent phone released globally, the 6 Pro. Save for a few key differences. Both phones are using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform. Which is 5G-compatible and it supports WiFi 6E.

One area where the RedMagic 6R differs is with the RAM and its lack of availability in the US at this point. Compared to the RedMagic 6 Pro with 16GB of RAM, it comes with either 8GB or 12GB. It also comes with a big display at 6.67-inches and a 144Hz refresh rate, with Full HD resolution.

The 6 Pro by contrast comes with a 6.8-inch display that has a 165Hz refresh rate.

The RedMagic 6R will likely cost around $500 in the US

While the specs in this new device won’t be as good as the 6 Pro, they’re still pretty decent and RedMagic will charge a lower price. US pricing hasn’t been revealed yet but the 12GB RAM model will retail for 3,299 Yuan in China when it launches in June.

Which is around $516. The 6 Pro retails for $699. So if you can forfeit some RAM and you’re fine with a lower refresh rate display, you’ll save some money by going with the 6R instead.

RedMagic says that it will share details on the global release for the 6R in June. Probably some time after the phone releases in China.

A more subtle design for the subtle gamer

Gaming smartphones are great if you love the design they usually come with. But not everyone does, and that’s where the RedMagic 6R may gain some appeal from consumers.

Specifically those look for a gaming phone that doesn’t look so much like a gaming phone. While there are a few gaming elements to the design here, it’s much more subtle. The phone also comes in two different colors. As for the rest of the key specs, it features a 4,200mAh capacity battery, a 64MP rear camera, a 16MP front camera, and it runs on Android 11.
