Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Picks Up May Security Update In The US

After the US carriers, the unlocked model of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is now picking up the latest May 2021 security update. It is the latest device from Samsung to join the May security update bandwagon.

Samsung holds the numero uno position when it comes to commercially available foldable devices. Without a doubt, if anyone wants to purchase a foldable phone, Samsung is their brand.

The Korean giant has a bunch of options like the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Z Flip, and the 5G variant of the Z Flip. Mind you, these devices are fragile but are absolutely great pieces of technology.

If handled with care, you can go along with these foldable phones from Samsung for as long as you would have with any regular slab-like phone. Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the premium foldable offering from the company, which will soon be replaced with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 very soon.

While we are at it, the unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 is now picking up the latest May security patch. In fact, this is the second update Samsung has pushed for the device.

Just to let you know, the update not only brings the May security patch but also some other goodies as well.

The unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 update arrives as version F916U1UEU1DUDE in the US

Talking about the firmware version, it arrives as F916U1UEU1DUDE in the U.S. Interestingly, as noted by SamMobile, the firmware version naming schema has “DUDE” on it, which is quite funny.

Now, apart from bumping the security patch level to May 1, 2021, it also brings camera performance and Quick Share improvements. Moreover, the dual recording feature has also been added.

This feature was enabled on the Galaxy S20 lineup with the previous update, and now, it is arriving for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 phones.

As always, the update is rolling out via OTA in batches and will take some time before it goes live for every unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 2 handset in the US.

If you have received the update notification, then good for you. You can go ahead and download the latest update. However, if you haven’t received the update notification yet, then you can manually check for it.

You need to go to Settings > Software update > Download and install. If the update is available for your region, then the updater will detect it and prompt you to download it.

As far as the successor of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is concerned, Samsung is gearing up for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is expected to arrive this summer.
