Xiaomi Developing A Phone With Rotating Pop-Up Camera

Xiaomi has been patenting all sorts of different phones, and a new patent just surfaced. The latest Xiaomi patent that appeared shows us a phone with a rotating pop-up camera.

This patent actually follows the phone with an under-display flip camera, and the one with a modular camera system. This patent surfaced on USPTO, says 91mobiles, and the patent was filed back in February 2020. It was approved / published on May 6.

New Xiaomi patent shows a phone with a rotating pop-up camera

Now, this patent shows that the phone includes a pop-up camera, similar to the one we’ve seen on devices before, devices like the OnePlus 7 Pro. Unlike those pop-up cameras, though, this one rotates, and can be both the front and rear-facing camera.

Xiaomi has patented two versions of a device with this system. One version comes with one camera sensor, while the other one comes with two of them. You can also see the motor on the inside thanks to the provided sketches.

Now, as most of you know, companies tend to patent all sorts of designs that never come to life. This may be one of those designs. On the flip side, Xiaomi may end up making such a device.

Xiaomi is no stranger to odd designs. The company likes to try out new things, and see what sticks in the process. It would not be all that surprising if a device like this makes it to the market at some point in the future.

Xiaomi could release all sorts of interesting designs down the line

It would certainly be interesting to see it, and the same goes for the phone with a rotating under-display camera. Modular smartphones didn’t do all that well in the past, but the one from Xiaomi with a modular camera setup could be interesting.

The company is now focused on delivering the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, though, along with two other foldable smartphones that are rumored to arrive by the end of 2021. Xiaomi released its first foldable earlier this year, and two more are allegedly coming.
