Instagram Group Fundraisers Allow People To Unite For A Cause

Instagram has announced a new Group Fundraisers feature that will let

“Offline fundraising is often a group activity, from things like walk-a-thons, to bake sales, to concerts, and we wanted to bring that same sense of community to Instagram fundraisers so people can activate together around a single cause,” the company said (via).

This isn’t the first time Instagram has added a fundraising tool on its platform. In July 2020, the company added a personal fundraiser tool in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company then followed up with Instagram Live fundraisers in August. As the name suggests, this feature enabled users to raise funds during Live stream on the platform.

Last but not least, in November 2020, Instagram added the ability for users to raise funds for nonprofits from directly within the app. The company is now enabling users to run fundraisers as a group to potentially reach more people.

Earlier in March this year, Facebook said people have donated over $5 billion through its various fundraising tools in its main app as well as in Instagram.

How to create group fundraisers on Instagram

To start a group fundraiser on Instagram, you first have to create a fundraiser on your own following the steps below:

  1. Tap the Create icon (+) in your Instagram feed.
  2. Select ‘Post’ and choose an image.
  3. Tap ‘Add Fundraiser’ and select the nonprofit you want to raise funds for.
  4. Add details and tap ‘Share.’

That’s it. You have successfully created a fundraiser on Instagram. You can now invite others to join the initiative and help expand your reach. Simply go to your fundraiser page, tap the ‘Share’ button and select ‘Invite Group Members’. Now search for accounts you want to invite and you’re all done. All of the people who have joined will be promoting this fundraiser on their respective Instagram accounts. This will increase visibility, which would help you quickly achieve your target.
