Odd Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Bug Causing Battery Drain

A rather odd bug has been discovered in the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, and it’s causing battery drain issues. Various Galaxy S21 Ultra owners have reported the issue, and it seems to be related to the camera app.

Odd Galaxy S21 Ultra bug is causing battery drain for users

The camera app is essentially draining the battery when the phone is idle. What’s interesting, however, is that this happens mostly when users are walking around with the phone in their pocket.

So, what’s happening? Well, the camera app is waking up the device when it detects movements. The ‘cameraservice_worker’ wakelock has been mentioned in the XDA Developers forums.

Users also tested the phone by shaking it, and that also does the trick. When the device is sitting on the table, well, the issue is not there. So, the issue is definitely triggered by motion.

Users have also tried factory resetting the phone, and messing with the settings, but nothing helped. In the original post, a user mentioned that the difference in battery drain is immense when moving.

One user lost 21-percent of charge in 7 hours, while actively using the phone for 15 minutes

One user actually reported a huge battery drain of 21-percent over the course of just seven hours. During that time, he had only 15 minutes of screen-on-time, but he was moving around a lot.

Needless to say, this is quite an odd bug. If you navigate to the linked XDA Developers forum, you’ll see quite a few users have experienced it. It’s up to Samsung to patch things up, as this must be frustrating the Galaxy S21 Ultra users.

It’s, of course, possible that only some of them are affected by this issue. That is usually the case with such odd bugs. Still, quite a few users have noticed issues, let’s hope Samsung will reach in the near future and patch things up. This does not sound like a complicated fix for Samsung, not at all.
