Samsung is preparing to launch two new foldable smartphones within the next few months – the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Firmware development for the two phones began in April. Now, according to the German publication WinFuture, the company has started the mass production of necessary components for the former. The mass production process for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has not begun yet but Samsung could start anytime now. The company is reportedly on time with its production pace of the two foldables.
The latest report claims that the initial production quantity will be only one-third compared to its mainstream flagships like the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note series. That’s because foldable smartphones are costly. Moreover, people are still not very confident in these devices as they aren’t as much durable as a conventional smartphone.
However, Samsung has high hopes for this smartphone form factor going forward. It hopes to sell more units of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 than its predecessor. A report last month suggested that the company is aiming to ship around three million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It will likely adjust the production quantity based on the initial demand for the phone.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 mass production is underway
Since the launch of the first Galaxy Fold in early 2019, Samsung has come a long way in refining its foldable smartphone lineup. With each new device, the company introduces tons of improvements and new features. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is now expected to bring many improvements as well.
It will reportedly feature a 7.5-inch Super AMOLED foldable display with a 120Hz refresh rate and QHD+ resolution. The cover display will be a 6.2-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED panel with a punch-hole design. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 may also debut Samsung’s under-display camera (UDC) technology as well as introduce S Pen support to its foldable lineup.
Other rumored specs include a Snapdragon 888 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, a triple rear camera setup, and a 4,400mAh battery with 25W fast charging. The device should run Android 11 out of the box, with a new version of Samsung’s One UI.
