Snapchat's TikTok Clone Has A Great Perk For Developers

Snapchat unveiled its Spotlight feature and it looks like the company wants to help app developers with it. The company just unveiled its new Spotlight Toolkit. This is a way of helping app developers get their apps to more people.

The new Spotlight Toolkit will give users the ability to post to Spotlight directly

According to The Verge, this move will help both Snapchat and the app developers. This seems like a move to aid app developers in getting their software on more devices. With the Spotlight Toolkit, developers can grant users the ability to post directly to Spotlight from their app.

As of the moment, there is a shortlist of apps to gain this ability. Right now, the apps that are a part of this initiative are Lightricks, Pinata Farm, Powder, and Splice. These are apps that center around content creation. With the toolkit, users of these apps will be able to post their creations directly to Spotlight.

This will allow more people to discover the apps

The Spotlight Toolkit won’t only work its magic inside the developers’ apps. Inside of Spotlight, users will be able to browse content made on those apps. Sweetening the deal is the fact that users will be guided directly to where to download the apps.

Millions of people flock to try out new and trending content. This will ostensibly drive up the downloads that the developers get on their apps. Snapchat, of course, has a lot of users, which means that there’s a high possibility that people will come across the apps.

Snapchat stated that it will not take a cut of any revenue gained from the collaborations. All of the profits will go to the app developers. More apps will undoubtedly be added to the collection, so maybe one day, your favorite content creation app will let you post directly to Spotlight.

What is Snapchat Spotlight?

Let’s face it, every social media platform wants to be like TikTok. The short-form video platform has spurred platforms like YouTube (with YouTube Shorts) and Instagram (with Reels) to jump on board. Snapchat is no different.

Spotlight is Snapchat’s answer to TikTok. Users have the ability to scroll through short videos in a rapid-fire fashion. The feature launched back in 2020 and it gave users the ability to be a TikTok star, but on Snapchat. While it raised its white flag and gave into the TikTok fad, Snapchat still leads the pack when it comes to filters and quick, picture-based chat.
