Xiaomi already released a foldable handset this year, the Mi MIX Fold. That was the company’s very first foldable smartphone, but the company is planning to announce at least another one this year, and a tipster just detailed it.
Before we get down to details, do note that Xiaomi is rumored to be preparing two additional foldable smartphones for 2021. That has not been confirmed just yet, but it has been mentioned in reports several times.
Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable smartphone will be an improvement over the Mi MIX Fold
Now, according to Digital Chat Station, a well-known tipster, one of those devices will be fueled by the Snapdragon 888. He also added that this phone will launch in the fourth quarter of this year.
The phone will be of the in-folding variety, just like its predecessor. A 5,000mAh battery was also mentioned, and the same goes for a 108-megapixel main camera sensor. The device will also feature two displays, both of which will offer high refresh rate support.
It seems like this upcoming device is looking to trump the Mi MIX Fold. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold also included the Snapdragon 888, a 108-megapixel main camera, a 5,020mAh battery, and two displays, but only one of them offered a high refresh rate.
The design probably won’t be that much different
This upcoming phone sounds like a refined version of what we got back in March. Chances are that the design won’t be much different. Xiaomi may be able to trim down those bezels a bit further, though.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold was often compared to the original Galaxy Fold (second edition). That is not surprising considering that it’s Xiaomi’s first smartphone. That phone also never made it to global markets.
Let’s hope that Xiaomi will launch at least one of its foldables to global markets, as it does with many of its other devices. The source did not suggest how much will this phone cost, in case you’re wondering.
