'S Pen Pro' For The Galaxy Z Fold 3 Gets Confirmed By The FCC

The official unveiling of Samsung’s new foldable phones is now less than a month away, and we have a good idea of what to expect from the company. One thing that people have been wondering was whether Samsung was going to make its Galaxy Z Fold device compatible with the S Pen. Thanks to a new FCC approval, we now know that it will be compatible with the S Pen Pro.

The FCC confirms that the S Pen Pro will be compatible with a handful of devices

The FCC filing is a collection of different documents, but the important one is titled “ID Lable/Location Info.” In it, we see the name S Pen Pro, and we see important information under it. First and foremost, we see the list of devices that will be compatible with it. Along with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it will work with the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, the Galaxy Note20/Ultra, the Galaxy Note10 Lite, the Galaxy Tab S7/+/FE, and the Galaxy Tab S6.

The listing also specifies that the S Pen Pro will only work on those devices if they are running One UI 3.1 or later. This list unfortunately leaves out the regular Galaxy S 21. The pen will also charge via USB-C.

The S Pen Pro will bring the features that users love from the Note Series

Much to many peoples’ dismay, Samsung has discontinued its Note series of phones. This announcement was made as the company was ramping up production on its foldable devices. Now, the company is bringing the S Pen to the market for those who miss the Note phones.

The standard S Pen is your run-of-the-mill stylus. The main talking point is the Pro model. The main thing that distinguishes it from the standard model is the addition of the air gestures. This pen will connect to the phone via Bluetooth LE and control the phone just like a Note.

The standard S Pen costs $39.99 from Samsung, but there’s no word on the price of the Pro model. The added functionality will hike up the price quite a bit. This is Samsung’s chance to undercut Apple, as the 2nd generation Apple Pencil costs $129.

So far, there’s no word on when we can expect this new pen to be unveiled. There’s always the chance that it will be unveiled at the next Unpacked event. It’s expected to happen on August 11th, and we know that the two new foldables will be introduced at the event.
