Nothing recently confirmed that its first product, a pair of TWS earbuds dubbed Ear (1), will go on sale on July 27th. But ahead of that, the company will exclusively release the first 100 units of the device on StockX, an online marketplace to buy and sell limited edition products. After all, the hype should go on.
The Nothing Ear (1) earbuds have gained a lot of media attention, partly because it’s the latest venture of former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. However, it’s more of a hype train from the company itself, as it tries to challenge several established brands in the industry.
Priced at $99/€99/£99/₹5,999, the Ear (1) is an affordable pair of TWS earbuds. But Nothing wants the industry to talk more about it. As part of this effort, the company is now teaming up with StockX to auction its debut device. Yes, Nothing wants you to bid for an unproven product from a company that has no history to look at. Perhaps it wants to see if consumers are willing to pay (more) for its products. The perk is, every Ear (1) unit sold in this auction will be “engraved with the numbers 1-100, in order of final sale price.”
The Nothing Ear (1) DropX, the method of selling products in an auction via StockX, will run from 2 pm BST (9 am ET) on 19 July 2021 until 1:59 pm BST on 21 July 2021. It will be the first time a tech product to launch on the platform. There is apparently no fixed minimum price for the auction. So the top 100 highest bidders will take home the new TWS earbud before everyone else. Note that your bid price will only be charged if selected as a winner.
What does the Nothing Ear (1) have in offer?
The Nothing Ear (1) will have a transparent design and come with Active Noise Cancelation (ANC). To be fair, that’s all bit of notable information available about the upcoming earbuds as yet. That’s another reason why this auction sounds weird. We don’t know what exactly we will be getting but the company wants us to bid for it. This is at a time when we know the product will be available for purchase, or perhaps for demos and hands-on reviews, just a week later. As said before, the general sales of this device will begin on July 27th.
Nonetheless, if you want to be among the firsts to own the Nothing Ear (1), go mark your calendar and keep your schedule open for July 19th to July 21st for the auction on StockX.com. Hopefully, the TWS earbuds will live up to the hype around them.
