ZTE Axon 30 5G Teased With Second-Gen Under-Display Camera

ZTE has released a teaser poster for its second smartphone with an under-display camera (UDC) technology. The phone is expectedly called the Axon 30 5G and it’s coming soon. The company didn’t reveal the exact launch date but, from the looks of it, the launch is imminent. The device could break cover by the end of this month.

The poster also contains a render of the phone, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from it. The ZTE Axon 30 5G will feature a full-screen design with no notch or hole for the front-facing camera. The camera sits under the display panel, of course. The bezels around the display are also almost negligible, allowing for a nearly 100 percent screen-to-body ratio.

ZTE releases a teaser poster for the Axon 30 5G

ZTE last year launched the world’s first smartphone with an under-display camera, the ZTE Axon 20 5G. Announced in September, it’s still the only commercially available smartphone with a UDC tech. The Chinese phone maker is now preparing to launch a successor to it in the coming months.

The company has been teasing its second-gen UDC tech since early this year, with concept designs and prototypes. Now we have an official confirmation that the phone will be called ZTE Axon 30 5G and it’s arriving soon (via). The phone will use the new InV see Pro UDC panel from the Chinese display maker Visionox.

The Axon 20 5G left a lot to be desired in terms of the under-display camera. There was an obvious visual difference in the display around the camera from the rest of the screen. This was probably due to a lower pixel density in that area. Visionox has now reportedly doubled the pixel density from 200 PPI to 400 PPI with the new InV see Pro panel to make the under-display camera less noticeable. The new phone might also get a higher 120Hz refresh rate.

Not much else is known about the ZTE Axon 30 5G as yet. However, since the company has already launched two models in the Axon 30 series – Axon 30 Pro and Axon 30 Ultra – the new phone could share some of the internals with its siblings. We are looking at a Snapdragon 888 processor, a quad rear camera setup with a 64-megapixel primary snapper, and a 4,500-5,000mAh battery with 55W fast charging.

We still don’t have a launch date for the Axon 30 5G. However, ZTE President Ni Fei had recently said that the company will be launching an “all-new” device in July. Reports suggest the phone could arrive on July 22nd. So you can expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks.
