Amazon Luna Levels Up With Chromebook Support, Luna Couch & More

Amazon is beefing up Luna with a rather hefty set of upgrades today, including a new feature called Luna Couch, new device support and more. When Luna launched, it was available on just a few devices. But these days it’s available across a wide array of different options, and today marks the addition of two more. Fire tablets and Chromebooks.

For Chromebooks, there’s basically support across the board. If it’s new enough to have the Play Store, then it can be installed through the app. But it can also be used through the Chrome browser. Fire tablets are a different story. As the compatibility list is much smaller. According to Amazon you’ll need one of the following devices. The Fire 7 from 2019, the Fire HD 8 from 2018 or 2020, or the Fire HD 10 from 2019 or 2021.

Luna Couch lets you play local co-op and multiplayer games with friends online

Luna Couch is the brand-new way to play games on Luna with friends. For starters, it lets you play local co-op and multiplayer games with friends without having to be in the same room. But the better part of the feature is that the friend doesn’t have to be a subscriber of the Luna service.

A Luna subscriber can host a Luna Couch session and friends can join to play. All subscribers have to do is create a special join game code and share it with anyone who wants in on the fun. The other player does however have to have a supported device that they can play Luna on. Other than that there really aren’t any restrictions. Which sort of makes this a pretty big push from Amazon to get users to try the Luna service out.

Fun for the whole family with the Family Channel

Another new feature add today is the Family Channel. A new channel in the Luna service which comes with a curated list of games that deemed appropriate for all ages. There are more than 35 games available in this channel including SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, Space Otter Charlie, SkateBIRD and more.

And all for a $2.99 a month access cost. Amazon has also upped the game list in the Ubisoft+ channel to 30 of the studio’s top games. Worth noting though is that the price is bumping up on September 30 from $14.99 a month to $17.99 a month.

If you’re curious about Luna but also on the fence due to the cost, now is the time to give it a try. Because Amazon is offering free access to Luna for the next few days. Between September 9 and September 15, players can access Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Gold Edition, Metro Exodus, Katamari Damacy REROLL, and Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom. The only requirement is that you have to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to gain access.
