Razer makes a lot of bold claims. Its latest suggests that the new Razer Huntsman V2 (not to be confused with the Huntsman V2 Analog from earlier this year) is the world’s fastest gaming keyboard. Offering up nearly zero input latency on key presses, for break-neck, lightning fast response times so you can crush your opponents in any game.
According to Razer, the new Huntsman V2 models are its most responsive, high-performance keyboards ever. The lineup offers the keyboard in two flavors. The Huntsman V2, and the Huntsman V2 TKL (tenkeyless). There’s minimal differences between the two. Most notably the absence of the number pad on the TKL model.
But the TKL also misses out on the multi-functional digital dial that sits just to the right of the number pad. On the full-size model, Razer has paired it with 4 dedicated media keys for skipping tracks, pause/play, and muting volume. These are certainly nifty features. So if you prefer the smaller footprint of a TKL keyboard, you’ll have to deal with a full-size if you want the more convenient media controls.
The Razer Huntsman V2 is fast, but how fast?
There are a lot of features to speak of on these new keyboards. But there’s only one feature that Razer is heavily promoting – the speed. Both the Huntsman V2 and the Huntsman V2 TKL use Razer’s HyperPolling technology and the 2nd generation of Razer’s optical switches.
What does that mean? It means that each keyboard has a true polling rate that’s been cranked up to 8,000Hz. Which is what Razer says brings the input latency down to nearly zero. Basically, Huntsman V2 go brrrrr. Is this too much power for any mere mortal to wield in their gaming arsenal? That is yet to be determined. But you can be certain that either keyboard will help you play games a little better.
They won’t increase your skills to god-like levels entirely on their own. But gitting gud starts with gitting gud gear. Aside from the near-zero input latency, the Huntsman V2 and its TKL sibling offer a range of other upgrades. Including Doubleshot PBT keycaps, and improved acoustics to help lessen the amount of “pings and thunks” you hear as your fingers glide across the keys.
Razer and Best Buy have exclusivity on one version
Razer is now selling both the Huntsman V2 and the TKL model directly through its online store, and you can also pick it up through retail partners like Amazon and Best Buy.
The Full-size model retails for $190 with the clicky purple switches and is available exclusively through Razer and Best Buy, while the TKL model with the same switches retails for $150 and can be picked up through Razer, Best Buy, Amazon and other retailers. The company also sells both models with linear red switches for $200 and $160 respectively that are available at most retailers.
