If you own an older smartwatch with Wear OS 2, then there is a piece of good news for you. Notably, the YouTube Music app is finally arriving for older smartwatches that run on the Wear OS 2 software.
According to a new report by The Verge, apparently, the YouTube Music Wear OS app is currently rolling out to a bunch of Wear OS 2 smartwatches. These smartwatches include Fossil, Michael Kors, and Mobvoi.
If you are living under a rock, you may not have noticed that the YouTube Music app started rolling out exclusively for the Wear OS 3-powered Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. These watches have been recently launched by Samsung.
The software is made in co-operation between Google and Samsung. And it’s one of the reasons Wear OS 3 feels fluid and performs better compared to previous-gen Wear OS smartwatches.
With the help of the YouTube Music app on your Wear OS smartwatch, premium subscribers will be able to download songs to compatible devices. Later, they can listen to this downloaded music offline. This also negates the need to pair your smartphone.
The YouTube Music app has started rolling out to Wear OS 2 this week
The YouTube Music app first appeared with Wear OS 3, which was introduced on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series. There were reports that hinted the app won’t be coming to the older smartwatches running Wear OS 2.
However, just like the Spotify offline support for Wear OS, the YouTube Music app is now available for smartwatches running Wear OS 2.
If you want to grab this new app, you can download it from the Google Play Store. The new app supports Google’s Smart Downloads feature. This automatically refreshes the downloaded songs for local playback using Wi-Fi.
From the usability point of view, this is quite a nifty feature as it doesn’t need to carry your smartphone or pair with your smartwatch in order to listen to songs.
All you need to do is download your favorite song using the YouTube Music app, and stream it using Wi-Fi. As noted by The Verge, Google will make the app available for Fossil and Micheal Kors Gen 6 lineup of smartwatches this week.
Besides, the app will also arrive next week for Mobvoi’s TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 Cellular/LTE, and TicWatch E3. Subsequently, more Wear OS 2 smartwatches will receive the app later this year.
This gives older smartwatch users a bit of hope to receive apps currently available only for the new versions of Wear OS.
