Google Image Search Viewer To Get A Redesigned UI On Mobile

If you use Google search as your default search engine to search images, then soon the UI of the image viewer is going to get a refreshed look. According to the latest report by 9To5Google, Google is testing a redesigned UI for the Image Search viewer on mobile.

Moreover, the new refreshed look is already live for some users on both the mobile and web versions of the Android version of the app. Notably, it isn’t widely available for everyone, though.

The updated UI for Google Search Image Viewer brings the Material You design elements to the table. You will see Android 12’s Dynamic Theming system in action.

As per the image shared by folks at 9To5Google, the new UI leaves behind the boring white or grey background in the image search interface. In place of the white or grey background, the interface is filled with the dominant color of the image that you have searched for.

If the feature is live for you, then when you search for an image, it will appear at the top, just like in the old UI. However, this time around, the fonts are much bigger and easier to read.

Related images now appear inside a carousel, which you can expand

The top-left corner space is now taken up by the name and icon of the site from which the image is sourced. The ‘X’ button that closes the search is now moved to the top-right of the page.

Just before the ‘X’ button, is placed the 3-dot menu button. Using this 3-dot menu button, you can either choose to share the image or bookmark it.

Furthermore, the new UI also brings some changes to how the related images appear. Related images will now appear inside a carousel, which you can expand using the dedicated button on the top-right of the box.

Related images box also get dynamic theming support. The ‘Visit’ button is now inside a pill-shaped icon on the bottom-right corner. Finally, the last change that you will notice is that the Google Lens has now moved to the bottom-left corner of the page.

Google Lens is getting a prominent place in the image search UI. The bottom menu bar is now a bit larger, and everything looks gorgeous.

Do note that this new redesigned UI for the Google Search Image viewer is live only for a small number of users. Google hasn’t shared any information regarding this change. So, there is no news regarding when the wider rollout will begin.
