The fact that Elon Musk’s Twitter acquisition offer was accepted is not exactly a secret. He bought the company for around $44 billion, and the purchase is set to close by the end of 2022. Since that happened, Elon Musk has been frequently sharing his leadership opinions via Twitter. In one of his latest tweets, Elon Musk said that believes Twitter DMs should be end-to-end encrypted.
Elon Musk wants Twitter DMs to be end-to-end encrypted
The owner of Tesla even mentioned Signal as an example in his Tweet. For those of you who are out of the loop, Signal is an open-source messaging platform, which managed to become quite popular over the years.
Based on his Tweet, Musk believes this should be implemented in order to prevent people from spying on or hacking your messages. End-to-end encryption would certainly be nice to see.
What does end-to-end encryption mean? Well, if it’s implemented, your messages get encrypted on your device, before they’re sent. That way only the receiver can see the message, other than yourself.
Musk has been quite vocal on Twitter, well… for a long time. Since this acquisition has been announced, though, he’s been sharing even more of his opinions. He put a huge emphasis on free speech, for example.
He also believes an edit button should be added to the platform
On top of that, Musk has been a firm believer an edit button should be implemented in full. That will likely happen for all users moving forward, though it will be interesting to see what will its final implementation will look like.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Twitter is working on an edit button, and someone actually managed to enable it as well… kind of. In any case, we’ll have to wait a bit longer, though Twitter has to be careful with its implementation.
There are a ton of other changes that Musk will probably push to Twitter. Change does take time, though, and we’ll have to wait and see if he’ll make a positive or a negative influence on the platform.
