When you’re using the Meta-owned app WhatsApp, you want to be sure that you control who can see your information and who can’t. This is why the company has certain privacy protection protocols in place. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing a new Contacts Except feature that will let you better control who can see your Last Seen status, Profile, and About information.
WhatsApp is a go-to app for people who want to communicate with their contacts. Other contacts on your phone, if they also have WhatsApp, will be able to contact you. This could be good for business, but you’d want to have control over who has access to sensitive information about you.
The Contacts Except feature on WhatsApp will give you that control
Right now, there are settings to hide and show your Last seen status, profile, and About page. However, those settings are all really broad. You can let everyone see them, no one see them, or only your contacts see them. But, what if you want all of your contacts to see your information except for just a few?
This is where the Contacts Except feature comes in handy for WhatsApp users. The company is currently testing this new feature with its beta testers. It rolled out beta version 2.22.8.9 for Android which brought some new features, and one of them is Contacts Except.
With it, users will see new options when they go to their privacy settings. When they tap on either Last Seen, Profile, or About, they’ll see a fourth option for hiding and showing those items. When they tap on Contacts Except, this means that all of your contacts will be able to see the information except for those that you choose.
This will let the users finetune who gets to see their personal information and who can’t. Since this is a beta test, it’s not available to the public just yet. There’s always the option to join the WhatsApp beta program, but at the time of writing this article, the beta program is full.
