Today the Xbox Wireless controller is getting a nifty new feature with the ability to manage your TV input. Though it won’t work exactly like the input button on a standard TV remote. Xbox’s Larry Hyrb took to Twitter to announce the arrival of the feature. Which allows users to press the Xbox button to change the input back to their console if they’re on a different input.
Say you’re waiting for a game to finish downloading and switch to the input for your cable or streaming device. You can fill your time by watching something until the download is finished. And with today’s new feature, you simply hit the Xbox button to switch back to the console input when you’re ready to play.
Pretty useful and pretty neat.
The Xbox controller TV input feature only works on Xbox Series X|S
While this is a useful feature to have, it’s only available via the Xbox Series X|S and consoles. So if you’re still using an Xbox One X, Xbox One S, or Xbox One, this feature won’t be usable.
On top of that, you’ll still need to enable it. The good news is it’s not hard to do that. To enable this, power on your console. Once on the home screen, hit the Xbox button and bring up the guide. Then navigate to the Profile & System menu and then to Settings.
Inside settings, find the General menu, then the menu for Sleep Mode & Startup. Finally, scan for TV & Power Options, and inside this menu you should see a feature you can toggle on and off called Consumer Electronics Control.
Turn this on. Also make sure to check the box for switching your TV input using the controller. Do all that and you’ll now be able to use the Xbox button to swap the input back to your console if you ever move off of it.
It’s a small feature update but undoubtedly one that will save users time. Not to mention just make their lives generally easier. Plus, there’s nothing wrong with having a little more convenience added to the user experience.
Starting today, when you press Xbox button on your controller once you will be able to switch input back to your Xbox. If you are on a different TV input waiting for a download or update, you can press the Xbox button once to switch back to the Xbox input https://t.co/hbEs9ns27cpic.twitter.com/aOkIyVERJs
