Fossil will begin to update its smartwatches to Wear OS 3 this month, according to a new report from Android Central. Fossil smartwatches were confirmed to get the new version of Wear OS a while back. But ever since then Fossil has been working make sure the software was ready for its watches. A big part of that was having a companion app that the watches would connect to. And the company revealed that new app back in July of this year.
Now it’s confirming when the update will actually arrive. And it’s a lot sooner than people probably think. Turns out, the update will be landing for compatible smartwatches next week. So if you have a Fossil smartwatch that’s compatible, get it ready.
Fossil smartwatches will get the Wear OS 3 update on October 17
The update is just around the corner for Fossil’s existing lineup. Fossil says the update is planned to roll out to watches on October 17. It may still be a few days (perhaps longer) before all compatible watch models get the new software. But the rollout begins next Monday. So it’s entirely possible that all users with a compatible watch will have the update by the end of next week.
As for which smartwatches are compatible, it’s any watch that uses a Snapdragon Wear 4100+. Which breaks it down to four models. The Fossil Gen 6, the Razer x Fossil Gen 6, the Skagen Falster Gen 6, and the Michael Kors Gen 6. This is in addition to the Fossil Gen 6 ‘Wellness Edition’ that Fossil is launching soon and comes with Wear OS 3 out of the box. For watches getting the update, users will need to factory reset their watch and pair it to the new Fossil companion app. That being said, users won’t be required to update. They will however be prompted to do so.
This will also bring the total number of watches with Wear OS 3 to 11. As it stands, the software is only available the Galaxy Watch 4 and 4 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro, the Mont Blanc Summit 3, and the Pixel Watch.
