Amazon Photos app finally gets a redesign on Android

The Amazon Photos app got redesigned on iOS a year ago, but a similar redesign never arrived to Android. Well, now it did, even though it took it a year to arrive. This does bring the Android app in line with its iOS counterpart.

Amazon finally brought the redesign to its Photos app

First and foremost, the app does look nicer now, it’s easier on the eyes. This redesign is supposed to make navigation and sharing photos and videos easier as well.

You can now search through your photo gallery directly from the homescreen. If you swipe up within the Amazon Photos gallery, you will get a new control panel where you’ll be able to find curated features to filter photos by object, place, or year.

Now, if you tap the Amazon Smile logo, which is located in the top-left corner of the gallery page, you’ll get access to various additional options, such as accounts, uploads, and prints.

You’ll notice that the paper airplane logo is located in the top-right corner now. Well, this button will take you to a page where images and videos can be shared with whomever you want.

If you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can store images for free, in full resolution. You’re also getting 5GB of video storage as part of the package as well.

Some users don’t seem to like this change, though

This update is supposed to bring Amazon Photos closer to Google Photos in terms of quality, and what the app has to offer. It didn’t take long for users to start leaving negative reviews on the Play Store, though, following this change.

At the time of writing this article, quite a few of them got published. People don’t seem to appreciate the update as much. They mention functionality changes, for the most part, as some features are either not accessible, or not where they used to be.

For example, there’s no longer a setting to back up photos while the phone is charging, it seems. Another user says that the edit function is now more difficult to use, and that it’s not as prominently visible as before. UI intuitiveness is also questioned, and so on. You’ll get the update soon, if you haven’t already, so you’ll be able to judge for yourself.
