Sony is flipping the switch on those PS VR2 pre-orders soon as today’s the day that pre-orders go live. The company officially announced the pre-order release date earlier this month, although the headset won’t officially launch until 2023. But if you’re someone who likes to get a head start on these things and be an early adopter of the tech, today’s the day you can put down your money to do just that.
There are a few caveats though. First, you need to get an invite from Sony to place the pre-order. But before you can receive an invite, you have to pre-register to get one. Which means you also need to have a PlayStation account. And lastly, pre-orders are only available through PlayStation Direct right now. That means no ability to place the pre-orders through other retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and the like. Sony has confirmed that during its initial launch phase, PlayStation Direct would be the exclusive retailer. However, not in all markets.
Also keep in mind (if you weren’t already aware) that the PS VR2 is only compatible with the PS5.
PS VR2 pre-orders will be at participating retailers in some markets
It might seem a little confusing, and we get it. But you will actually be able to place a pre-order for the headset outside of PlayStation Direct in some markets. Here’s the breakdown.
The PS VR2 pre-orders will be exclusive to PlayStation Direct in the US, UK, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Netherlands. Participating retailers in other markets will have pre-orders. Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t mention any specifically. It does however state that in those other markets, any retailers that are participating will announce their own details.
Pre-orders do also go live today for those markets. So if you live in an area not listed above, check the retailers in your region who might sell this product. If you want the chance to pre-order and you haven’t already pre-registered, you can do so here if you live in one of the listed regions.
