Back in September, at its Services and Devices event, Amazon announced that Fire TV would be coming to the Echo Show 15. Well, that experience is now available, for all new and existing Echo Show 15 devices.
Now, the big question is, how is this different from watching Amazon Prime Video, Hulu and others on the Echo Show the way it sits currently? Well, currently, the Echo Show supports some, but not all video services. The Fire TV supports nearly all. One big difference is that Fire TV does support YouTube and YouTube TV, while the Echo Show does not.
Fire TV on the Echo Show 15 will work the same as it does on any Fire TV, TV set. That gives you access to apps like Disney+, YouTube TV, HBO MAX, Paramount+, Peacock, NBC Sports and so much more.
How to set up Fire TV on Echo Show 15
You’ll need to Add Fire TV to your Echo Show 15. If this is a new Echo Show 15, or you just factory reset it, in the set up process there will be a new screen for “Echo Show 15 meet Fire TV”. Just click Continue and then select the apps you want to download, as well as pairing your Alexa Voice Remote (3rd Gen).
You will still be able to use your phone as a remote, like you can on other Fire TV devices in your home.
Fire TV on Echo Show 15 also brings Alexa Widgets. This is similar to what is available on Amazon’s own Omni TV models that it sells. Which you can add to your homescreen quite easily. You can use all of your favorite Fire TV features too. Like picture-in-picture with the Smart Home Camera View, setting reminders, pairing with your Echo Buds and so much more.
The update starts rolling out today, and soon you’ll be able to watch TV on your Echo Show 15.
If you don’t have a Fire TV in your home, you probably need an Alexa Voice Remote. For a limited time only, Amazon is offering the Alexa Voice Remote (3rd Gen) for just $9.99 (that’s $20 off), to Echo Show 15 owners. Or you can bundle the Echo Show 15 and an Alexa Voice Remote (3rd Gen) for just $194.99. Keep in mind, the Echo Show 15 is normally $249.
