For example, to turn on your smart lights, you’d need to give a clear command such as “Hey Google, turn on the lights.” Being creative with how you give commands to the voice assistant system will throw it off balance.
Mate Marschalko also noticed this and wondered how GPT-3 and ChatGPT can help improve the intelligence of a particular voice assistant platform. For his little experiment, Mate used his Apple HomeKit which controls a good number of appliances around his house. To integrate GPT-3 into his Apple HomeKit, Mate used Apple’s shortcut app.
The shortcut app gives ChatGPT permission to respond to any given command with Siri’s voice. So literally, the shortcut masquerades ChatGPT as Siri with a few tweaks. Mate trained ChatGPT on the types of requests he’d give, how it should respond to certain requests, and the location of devices the HomeKit controls.
With this information, the Siri and ChatGPT integration was ready to be put to use. From the video, the Siri and ChatGPT system was able to understand certain commands that would have thrown regular voice assistants off balance. For instance, Mate used complex sentences to turn on/off the lights, activate the thermostat, and so on.
Normally, the voice assistant would have been unable to understand the commands given. But, with the integration of AI capabilities, it was able to understand and carry out the commands given.
