First smartphone with 240W charging confirmed to arrive next month

A couple of days ago, a 240W charger was spotted online. We assumed that a Realme phone is coming, and we were right. It is now official, the Realme GT Neo5 will debut next month, and it will become the first smartphone to offer 240W charging.

The very first smartphone with 240W charging is coming next month

Just to be clear, this is 240W SuperVOOC charging we’re talking about. OPPO showed it off at MWC last year, and it now seems to be ready for primetime. Realme is OPPO’s sister company, and they do share tech between them.

Realme is using a three-way 100W charge pump with a parallel design in order to achieve this. We’re looking at a 20V 12A input here, and 10V 24A output. The company also says that the conversion efficiency reaches 98.5%.

Realme will even deliver a custom charging cable for this. It is a 12A charging cable with 21AWG thickened copper wires. It essentially increases the current carrying capacity by 20%.

The Realme GT Neo5 is the device in question

The charger will be included in the box with the Realme GT Neo5. We’re looking at a 240W dual GaN mini charging adapter here. It is capable of reaching the highest power density of 2.34W/CC in the industry.

This charger uses a single USB-C interface, and its volume is 5% larger than the previous 150W charging adapter that Realme used. That is not a large increase in size, but it is in charging speed.

The Realme 240W SuperVOOC charging protocol is also compatible with 65W PD, QC, and VOOC. So, it has a wide range of compatibility, and you’ll be able to use it with other devices even, if you want.

240W SuperVOOC charging is using 13 built-in temperature sensors

The company is also using 13 built-in temperature sensors here, just to keep things safe. On top of that, it supports PS3 fireproof design, and a real-time safety monitoring system. The company is also using the industry’s largest 6580mm² graphene phase heat dissipation material.

OPPO and Realme also thought about battery health. After 1,600 0-100% full charging cycles, the effective health of the battery remains over 80%.

We still do not know the launch date of the Realme GT Neo5, but we now know that it’s coming in February. That phone could debut at MWC, though, which kicks off on February 27. We’ll have to wait and see.
