Galaxy S23 Ultra will capture better portrait videos

As we draw closer to the February 1 launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, more details about the phones are surfacing. According to noted tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will bring substantial improvements to portrait video quality over the 2022 model. The device will reportedly capture portrait videos in 4K resolution at 30fps (frames per second). The Galaxy S22 Ultra can only record 1080p portrait videos at 30fps (via).

Moreover, this improvement isn’t just about the video resolution. The source claims that the Galaxy S23 Ultra also does a better job at background separation and background blur in portrait videos. This should enhance the overall quality of the videos. The new Samsung flagship is said to be better at heat management as well. The device reportedly features a new thermal system that can efficiently manage the internal temperature for sustained optimal performance.

The latest Galaxy S23 leak specifically mentions these improvements for the Ultra model. But we expect the smaller two Galaxy S23 phones to also get some of these nifty improvements. An improved thermal system will certainly help. All three models feature the same overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor from Qualcomm. You will get this chipset wherever you buy a Galaxy S23. The game has ended for Samsung’s in-house Exynos processors as far as Galaxy flagships are concerned.

The processor may be the same across the board, but the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ differ significantly from the Ultra model in terms of cameras. The latter is getting a 200MP primary shooter at the back, paired with a 12MP ultrawide lens and two 10MP zoom cameras (3X and 10X optical zoom). The former two, on the other hand, feature a 50MP primary rear camera. These phones also miss out on a 10X zoom camera. The ultrawide lens, 3X zoom camera, and 12MP selfie camera are the same across the lineup.

Despite getting a less-capable camera system, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ will reportedly still let you record 8K videos at 30fps. That’s a nice improvement over the maximum frame rate of 24fps you get for 8K videos on the Galaxy S22 series. This does instill some hope that the improved portrait videos will be available on all three models. Thankfully, it isn’t a too long wait now before things go official. Stay tuned for the big launch next Wednesday, February 1.
