OnePlus foldable phones are being tested; names trademarked

A OnePlus foldable smartphone may be closer to launch than we think, as possible names have appeared. OnePlus trademarked two monikers for its foldable smartphones, reports Mukul Sharma, a tipster.

OnePlus foldable smartphones are on the way, as names get trademarked

Those monikers are ‘OnePlus V Fold’ and ‘OnePlus V Flip’. The ‘Fold’ and ‘Flip’ names have become synonymous with vertically-folding, and horizontally-folding (clamshell) foldable smartphones, thanks to Samsung.

So, we’re guessing that the OnePlus V Fold is reserved for the Galaxy Z Fold series competitor, and the OnePlus V Flip will compete with the Galaxy Z Flip series.

That’s not all, though. The tipster claims that internal testing of at least one of these phones has begun in several regions. He claims that one of those regions is Europe, by the way.

OnePlus may announce its first foldable smartphone this year

When are we going to get a OnePlus foldable? Well, your guess is as good as ours, but it’s possible that OnePlus will release its first foldable this year. There’s nothing stopping the company, though we may have to wait until 2024.

OnePlus already announced its flagship smartphone in China, the OnePlus 11, while it will launch globally on February 7. The OnePlus 11T will likely arrive later this year, and OnePlus may squeeze in a foldable smartphone launch too.

The company may opt to launch both its ‘Fold’ and ‘Flip’ phones at the same time, or test the waters with one first. Only time will tell. Both OPPO and Vivo already announced foldable smartphones in the past, and those are OnePlus’ sister companies. So OnePlus certainly has the technology and all the information it needs to deliver its own foldable smartphones to the market.

It remains to be seen which road will OnePlus take, though. Vivo and OPPO released considerably different Galaxy Z Fold-style foldables, and only OPPO released a clamshell foldable thus far.
