Samsung to introduce several new camera features with Galaxy S23

The Galaxy S23 launch is almost upon us. Samsung will take wraps off its new flagships on February 1. Leaks so far have revealed that the upcoming phones will bring a substantial upgrade in the camera department. Leaked official teasers yesterday suggested improved low-light photography among other things. A fresh rumor now gives us some clues about the new camera features that Samsung will introduce with the Galaxy S23 series.

According to the latest report, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will let you record hyperlapse videos of the sky, possibly of the night sky as well. Samsung’s Expert RAW app already offers an Astrophoto feature that enables you to capture clear and bright photos of stars and constellations. The company is seemingly expanding this feature to hyperlapse videos. It’s unclear whether it will bake the new feature into the stock camera app or if it will still be available through Expert RAW.

Another new camera feature that the Galaxy S23 series will get is Pro mode for the selfie shooter. It gives you manual controls over shooting parameters such as ISO, White Balance, shutter speed, and more. Samsung smartphones have long offered Pro mode for the rear cameras. The front-facing shooter will finally get it this year. Unsurprisingly, Expert RAW gives even more granular controls over these parameters.

The Galaxy S23 series will also support RAW format for photos captured in 50MP resolution. For years, the option to save photos in the RAW format was only available when shooting in Pro mode in the default camera resolution (12MP in most cases). The upcoming flagships will finally change that, giving users more options when it comes to photography. You still won’t get RAW format support for photos captured in full 200MP resolution on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, though.

These new Galaxy S23 camera features should reach older models too

Samsung usually debuts a few new camera features on its latest flagships. But those features don’t remain exclusive to the new devices. They trickle down to compatible older models a few weeks or months after the latest models arrive on the market. It should be no different this year. The ability to capture hyperlapse videos of the sky, Pro mode for the selfie camera and RAW format support in 50MP resolution should reach the likes of Galaxy S22 and other supported models shortly after the Galaxy S23 debut next month. We will keep you posted.
