Twitter launches new verification program for organizations

Ever since Twitter made the blue checkmark available to anyone who subscribes to Twitter Blue, the company has been trying to fix the issue of verified trolls posing as corporations, celebrities and other high-profile figures on the platform. Now, the company is accepting sign-ups for its new verification program for organizations, previously known as Blue for Business.

To enter the waitlist, organizations must submit their names, Twitter usernames, and websites. They must also specify their size and the expected number of connected accounts. By doing this, Twitter aims to ensure that users who claim to be part of a specific organization are indeed who they say they are.

“As a subscriber, you and your business will receive business accounts and affiliation badges through our self-serve administrative portal. We’ll be reviewing applications and opening up access to a limited group on a rolling basis in the coming weeks,” said Twitter.

Checkmarks in different colours for companies, government agencies and individuals

This move comes after CEO Elon Musk announced that the website will roll out a feature that will give organizations the capability to identify accounts that are associated with them. Musk also announced that the website will offer checkmarks in different colours: gold for companies, grey for the government, and blue for individuals. Thus making it difficult for random users to pose as a company or a government agency.

In addition to the verification for organizations program, Musk also announced that Twitter will publish its “tweet recommendation code” and will make a tweet and account status visible “no later than next month”. As a result, users will now know if Twitter has shadowbanned their accounts or not. He added that “transparency builds trust”. Moreover, the website is moving the bookmark button to the tweet details page and is fixing its image auto-cropping feature next week.
