Xiaomi 13 Ultra may be coming in April after all, but why?

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra rumored for a long time at this point, and it may launch in April after all. Well, at least if this new tip is to be believed. A Chinese tipster claims that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will launch in April at the latest. Some recent rumors suggested that the phone’s launch has been pushed back.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra may arrive in April after all

As most of you know, the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro launched in China in December. They’ll be coming to global markets next month, during MWC 2023. Truth be said, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is kind of an ‘Ultra’ model, and that’s where things get confusing.

What’s the point in releasing the Xiaomi 13 Ultra? Well, Xiaomi apparently thinks there’s a reason. Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, said in August last year that the “next iteration of Ultra” will be coming to global markets.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra launched in July last year, and it remained exclusive to China. It launched over half a year after the Xiaomi 12 series. That phone did make sense, as it was a considerable upgrade over the Xiaomi 12 Pro. It ushered in a new design, a 1-inch camera sensor, and so on.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is already an ‘Ultra’ phone, kind of

The Xiaomi 13 Pro already has a 1-inch camera sensor, and all bells and whistles. Including a top-of-the-line LTPO display, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, 120W charging, 50W wireless charging, and so on.

If the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, or whatever it ends up being called, gets announced in April, we don’t see how it will trump the Xiaomi 13 Pro, at least in a significant way. That’s why we believe you should take this rumor with a grain of salt.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra may arrive later in the year, sure, but releasing it in April doesn’t really make all that much sense. That would mean it’ll arrive about 4 months after the Xiaomi 13 series debuted, and only 2 months after those debuted in global markets.

Who knows, though. The tipster seems to be confident about the info, so we may see it launched early after all.
