Twitter unbanned former US President, Donald Trump, back in November, following Elon Musk’s poll. In January, Meta announced that Donald Trump will get reinstated on Facebook and Instagram, and that’s exactly what just happened.
Donald Trump gets reinstated on both Facebook and Instagram
Meta’s ban lasted for two years, and at the time of writing this article, Donald Trump didn’t post on either platform following reinstatement. Do note that extra “guardrails” are now in place. Meta said that it included those to avoid “repeat offenses”.
Back in January 2021, when Trump got suspended, Meta said that he will remain suspended for two years, on both platforms. After that time has passed, Meta promised to reassess the situation. That’s basically what happened.
As a reminder, Donald Trump got banned by Twitter and Meta following his comments on the Capitol Hill attack. That happened after Trump lost the US Presidential elections to Joe Biden.
He was first banned for 24 hours by Meta, after which a 2-year ban followed. Meta’s Oversight Board did criticize the situation, believing things could have been done differently.
Trump didn’t post on Twitter since he got his account back in November last year
Donald Trump didn’t actually post anything on Twitter since the ban was lifted. As a reminder, a couple of months have passed since then.
If the former US President does decide to utilize either of these platforms again, he will have to be careful. Meta clearly said that there are “guardrails” in place, and Twitter is probably paying extra attention to it as well.
It is worth noting that Donald Trump has an agreement with Truth Social, though. He has to share social media posts there first, and keep them exclusive to the app for six hours. After that, however, he can freely share them elsewhere, on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
