Future iPhones may finally get reverse wireless charging

Future iPhones may finally get reverse wireless charging, as Apple seemingly started working on it. Reverse wireless charging has been around since 2018, and many smartphones offer it these days, not a single iPhone, though.

Future iPhones could finally get reverse wireless charging, years after Android phones

Samsung’s Galaxy S series, for example, has been using it since 2019. It is very useful if you need to charge up your wireless earbuds, or any other similar gadget that supports wireless charging. Yes, you can even charge up another phone, though it would charge really slow this way, of course.

In any case, according to a report by 9to5Mac, reverse wireless charging was supposed to be included in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. That didn’t happen, as Apple couldn’t meet its own deadline.

This feature has been rumored for iPhones since 2019. Apple is now reportedly working on optimizing this feature. It’s working on coordinating the charging speeds between the iPhone and the device being charged, trying to adjust heat dissipation, and so on.

Apple is also developing a user interface for wireless charging. That is basically a combo of an animation and sound that pop up when you place a device to charge, similar to the one when you attach a MagSafe accessory to your iPhone.

This feature may debut with this year’s iPhones

Considering that the feature was planned for the iPhone 14, but never arrived, it may debut with the iPhone 15. Knowing Apple, only the higher-end models will offer it, not the vanilla versions of the device.

We can only guess at this point, though, of course. This feature truly is long overdue on iPhones, and it would be nice to see Apple implement it. It really is a convenient way to keep your wireless charging-compatible accessories charged when you’re on the go.
