Minecraft is officially coming to Chromebooks at some point in the near future, with testing already underway. As spotted by ChromeUnboxed, the fan-favorite building game that is limited only by your imagination is currently being tested for use on Chromebooks.
This would mark the first time that players would have official access to the game on Google’s computer platform. While the Play Store is available on Chromebook, an official Chrome OS port of Minecraft is not. But that won’t be the case for long. Right now though, you can’t just boot up the laptop and download the game. That is unless you live in one of the supported countries.
Minecraft testing on Chromebooks is available in certain countries
Minecraft is a popular game across platforms and with players of all ages. And it has massive following of players worldwide. Right now, Mojang is testing Minecraft Trial on Chromebooks in a limited number of countries. There are a couple of things to immediately unpack with that.
First, since testing is being done in a limited number of countries. the trial is not available everywhere yet. For the moment, Minecraft Trial on Chromebook is available in India, Australia, Brazil, UAE, Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Indonesia, Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, and Turkey.
This means there’s no current support for the US, UK, Canada, and many different countries in Europe and Asia. The other thing worth noting is that this is a trial. So it is not a full version of the game in its most recent form. Mojang says the trial provides players with a “time-limited, survival-only experience.” So there’s a lot of content players won’t have access to.
You won’t need a Microsoft account to access the trial if you live in one of the supported countries. You will however need one for the full version of the game. When it finally arrives. The trial will last 90 minutes, at which point your gameplay time is over. You can start a new trial world though if you wish to keep playing. This will reset your 90 minutes, but unfortunately it resets everything else too.
