Modern Warfare II season 2 brings new raid episode and more

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 are heading into season 2 very soon, and with the new season there’s a metric ton of new content coming. This includes the second episode of the raid that Infinity Ward launched late last year. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. As players can also expect a handful of new maps for multiplayer. As well as a new smaller Warzone 2.0 map called Ashika Island, new game modes, operator bundles and much, much more.

Modern Warfare II has had a strong launch. But it has entered into a bit of a lull towards the end of the first season. So this spread of new content should act as a revival for players who have taken a break or stepped away. With that being said, you won’t have to wait too long if the new season has you excited. Season 2 of Modern Warfare II will launch on February 15.

Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 season 2 is packed full of content

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II brought with it a boat load of content at launch. Even still there’s plenty to do in the game. Whether you prefer the heat of the battle in multiplayer, or the more coordinated team efforts of PvE modes like Spec Ops, you have lots to do. Season 2 of course will expand on all of that. Including some quality of life upgrades like combat records for Warzone 2.0 and leaderboards for multiplayer.

Warzone 2.0

For starters, Warzone 2.0 will be getting a new, smaller map called Ashika Island. It’s a fraction of the size of Al Mazrah. But still big enough to get lost in. Infinity Ward says it’s 30% bigger than previous small maps. So that should give you an idea of the size. Along with Ashika Island comes the return of Resurgence mode. You can play this mode solo, but you can also enter with a duo, trio, or quads team.

Resurgence is a returning mode from Warzone that lets players redeploy after death as long as they still have teammates alive. Redeployment is based on a timer, which can be shortened by teammates completing tasks. Such as killing enemy players. The timer also grows longer every time the circle gets smaller. Players can also “Restore Honor” by picking up their dropped dog tags should they fall in battle.

Doing so will grant a small amount of cash, and more importantly, a UAV ping on the mini map that can alert you to enemy players and nearby supply boxes. Season 2 will also introduce a new contract called Search & Seizure, a new public event called Data Heist, the updated Gulag with 1v1 duels, redeploy drones, and a new AI combatant called the Rusher.

DMZ

DMZ was a breath of fresh air for the Call of Duty franchise and is essentially the Call of Duty version of an extraction shooter. While the mode is still in beta and has its ups and downs, it still presents a fun, exciting take on Call of Duty gameplay. With Season 2, players can expect to infiltrate Ashika Island and take on a host of new tasks and face off against new threats.

There’s a new weapons case to extract with and a new boss called the Bombmaker to take down. IW is also updating the points of interest in Al Mazrah, and is performing DMZ’s first reset with the launch of season 2.

Modern Warfare II – multiplayer/spec ops

If multiplayer and spec ops are your favorite parts of Modern Warfare II, the this season has a lot in store for you. While not available until the middle of the season, players will get the chance to continue the narrative of the campaign with the coming of the raid’s second episode. If you didn’t play the first episode, it ends on an exciting cliffhanger that’s well worth the completion. Episode 2 will take the story further, where players will have to team up with “unlikely allies to help tie up loose ends.”

As for multiplayer, there will be four new maps coming in addition to new game modes. Dome and Valderas Museum will be two new core maps, while Al Malik International and Zaya Observatory will be two new battle maps.

The game modes is where things get really exciting. Two fan favorites make their return as both Infected and Gun Game act as the headlining modes. But they’re not alone. Season 2 also introduces Grind, a return of Hardcore, Drop Zone, All or Nothing, and One in the Chamber.

A new battle pass, new weapons, and the Path of the Ronin event

A new season means a new battle pass and plenty of things to unlock along the way. Last season’s battle pass had some decent weapons, and this new battle pass promises to be the same. The one that stands out the most though, at least initially, is the Kodachi blades. The Dual Kodachis is a melee weapon that sacrifices strafe and sprint speeds for longer range lunges compared to the knife. What’s more, is that each swipe of the Dual Kodachis gives you faster forward motion towards your opponents.

Players can also look forward to the Crossbow, the ISO Hemlock Assault Rifle, the KV Broadside Shotgun, and the Tempus Torrent Marksman Rifle. The ISO Hemlock, KV Broadside Shotgun, and Dual Kodachis will all be available in the battle pass. Meanwhile the Crossbow can either be acquired from a store bundle or by completing all seven Path of the Ronin challenges.

The Tempus Torrent will be available in the middle of the season alongside the new Shuriken lethal equipment.

Path of the Ronin – launch event

Season 2’s theme is based on Japan. This is well presented with the arrival of Ashika Island. But also in the form of new weapons. Then there’s the operators and skins, store bundles, and the new event – Path of the Ronin. You get the idea. Japan and the ronin are the central theme this season. The Path of the Ronin event will task players with completing seven different challenges to unlock unique rewards.

Each challenges is based on one of seven different virtues of Bushido – Integrity, Respect, Courage, Honor, Compassion, Sincerity, and Loyalty. Upon completing challenge players can earn a reward. This includes the new Crossbow as well as a weapon charm, gun screen, and more. Challenges can also be completed in either Warzone 2.0 or in multiplayer.

New operator, skins, and bundles

Continuing with the theme of the ronin and forging your path, season 2 sees the return of Daniel “Ronin” Shinoda as an operator. It’s not clear how players can unlock him yet. But it could have to do with completing one of the Path of the Ronin challenges. At some point in the season there will also be new store bundles. This includes two new tracer packs, one of which is called Shinobi. Naturally, prices for the bundles aren’t mentioned. But expect these to cost around 2,400 COD points as most tracer packs have been in that range.

Additionally, players can acquire new skins for both Roze and Nova. Players will also be able to grind their prestige rank up to level 500.

PlayStation Plus exclusives

Those who play season 2 of Modern Warfare II on PlayStation are going to get some extras via a new Sony Combat Pack. However you will need to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus to get these. Included is a new operator skin for Hiro “Oni” Watanabe. Making this the second skin for that operator. The combat pack will also include two weapon blueprints. The Oni Carver SMG blueprint, and the Oni Slasher Assault Rifle blueprint.

Rounding things out will be the Yoroi weapon charm, the Crimson Oni animated calling card, the Golden Dragonfly sticker, and Grinning Oni emblem. The combat pack will be available on February 22.
