If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to see what makes the PS VR2 tick, Sony is making that a reality with a teardown of the headset. In an official PlayStation Blog post, the company lets you take a peek at the headset’s inner workings. Before you get too excited about the process, it’s worth noting that this isn’t intended to showcase how to perform a PS VR2 teardown on your own.
It does however provide a really interesting look at how Sony put together the hardware. And that can be especially exciting for anyone who is planning to buy the PS VR2. As you’ll have a better understanding of how all the pieces fit together to make the hardware function.
The teardown is split up into two different videos. Each one with one of the engineers from the Hardware Design Division that worked on the headset. Specifically, Takamasa Araki from the Mechanical Design Department who tears down the headset. The second video features Takeshi Igarashi from the Peripheral Design Department who tears down the controllers.
PS VR2 teardown shows off internal cooling system and more
Based on early reviews, Sony’s achievements with its latest VR headset are sort of masterful. It already seems to be extremely well-loved. And that sort of praise makes it easy to wonder how Sony put things together. How does the headset stay cool? What makes up the comfort factor? You get a look at those things and more in the teardown. However, it is worth mentioning that the audio is all in Japanese.
So for those who don’t speak the language, the video can still serve as a way to see all the moving parts (just look at that tiny cooling fan!). The video does also have subtitles so you won’t be completely in the dark about the explanations. You can watch both videos below.
