Twitter Blue users' tweets can be up to 4000 characters long

Amid all of the chaos, Twitter Blue is a thing again, and the company is still adding features to the platform. This latest addition isn’t really a surprise, as it was leaked a couple of weeks ago. According to, well an extremely long tweet, Twitter Blue users can now post tweets up to 4000 tweets long.

We knew about this feature a while back thanks to a leak. However, at that point, we didn’t know if it was going to apply to Twitter as a whole or if it was only for Blue users. Now, we know. It’s good to see that Twitter is still rolling out features to its “saving grace” subscription service. As you know, shortly after Elon Musk took over, about half of Twitter’s staff was let go.

So, the character limit has long been a gripe for Twitter users, but the company has given us some useful additions. Several years ago, the company bumped up the character limit to 280 characters, and that helped. Also, we gained the ability to use threads, which upped the character limit to, well, infinity. The thing about that is the fact that people tend to shy away from threads.

Now, Twitter has delivered an update that increases the character limit by 1420%. In a tweet posted from the company, Twitter Blue users in the states can now post tweets up to 4000 characters long. To put that into perspective, if you double the number of characters in this article so far, you still wouldn’t reach the limit. Needless to say, that’s quite a bit.

It seems odd that the company made such a drastic jump. Deep down, we all expected the next jump to double the 280-character limit. Even that’s a good amount of legroom. 4000 seems like overkill.

In any case, Twitter lets its users know that all of the core features still apply to extended tweets. Everyone can view the full tweets, even non-Blue users Also, you can still add media to your tweets.

If you’re interested in getting Twitter Blue, it costs $8/month if you sign up on the web. Using the Play Store or the Apple App Store, it will cost you $11/month. There’s also an $84/year plan.
