Say what you want about pre-Musk Twitter, but you have to admit that, after Elon Musk took the helm, it’s been chaos. If you don’t like the direction that the popular micro-blogging platform is going, well, there’s good news. Elon Musk just said that Twitter should have a new CEO by the end of 2023.
2022 was notable for many reasons, and the acquisition of Twitter by billionaire Elon Musk was one of them. After a lengthy, laborious, and legal process, Elon was given the reins to control Twitter. But, for lack of a better word, it’s been hell.
About half of the staff was laid off, Twitter Blue’s price jumped up 32% to $8/month, the verification system was uprooted, hate speech on the platform rose exponentially, Twitter Blue went offline for a while, and other shenanigans. This led people to flock to other platforms like Mastodon and Hive Social.
Twitter may have a new CEO before 2024
While things seem to have settled down a bit in Bird Land, people are still glad to know that Elon is stepping down. Not too long ago, Elon posted a poll on Twitter asking if he should step down. The results were overwhelmingly in favor of kicking him out. Well, it looks like he’s honoring that.
According to Bloomberg (via The Verge), Elon feels that the end of the year is a good time to plant someone else on the throne. In a video, he said, “I’m guessing probably towards the end of the year would be good timing to find someone else to run the company.”
The reason he’s not stepping down has all to do with timing. “I think it should be in a stable position around the end of this year,” he said, “I need to stabilize the organization and just make sure it’s in a financially healthy place in that the product roadmap is clearly laid out,”.
At the moment, there’s no word on who Musk is considering for the position. We don’t know if there’s even a list of candidates yet. We’ll need to wait until later in the year for information on this.
