iPhone 15 Pro may leave ring/silent switch in the past, kind of

According to a new report, the iPhone 15 Pro series may make a ring/silent switch a thing of the past. It’s not as bad as it sounds, though, as you’ll still be able to do the same thing, but in a different way.

The iPhone 15 Pro may not feature a ring/silent switch, at least not in that form

Based on a report from 9to5Mac, the ring/silent switch may be replaced with a button. Yes, you read it right. Apple may be moving away from a physical switch, which kinds of makes sense as it’s also ditching physical buttons. More on that soon.

The source mentioned a “pressing type” mute in the report, which will allegedly be included on both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. We did not get an explanation for it, though, so we don’t know how will it work, exactly.

On top of that, we also don’t know how will Apple indicate the status. It could do that via software only, but that button will lose some of its charm that way. We’ll have to wait and see.

Solid-state buttons are coming

That’s not all, though. The same report also mentions the phone’s volume rocker buttons. As many of you know thus far, Apple is expected to implement solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro series, that goes for both power/lock and volume rocker buttons.

Based on this report, Apple will go from separate up and down buttons for the volume rocker, to a single button. The fact it’s moving to a solid-state setup probably has something to do with it, though it could still leave them separate. This is a design choice.

Needless to say, all this will take some getting used to for Apple users. Apple very rarely makes such changes to its products. The overall design won’t change that much, other than what we talked about.

All iPhone 15 models will include a Dynamic Island setup, though, and all of them will feature Type-C ports at the bottom. The Lightning port will become a thing of the past.
