Nubia Z50 Ultra announced with under-display camera, 80W charging & more

The Nubia Z50 Ultra has been announced, and it’s one of the best-looking phones in the market, at least from the front. This handset comes without a notch or a display hole. It utilizes an under-display camera, and immensely thin bezels.

The Nubia Z50 Ultra is official with under-display camera, very thin bezels

You can see how thin those bezels are in the images below the article. Some of those are official renders, while others are real-life images shared by Ice Universe. On top of everything, the device has a flat display.

The Nubia Z50 Ultra has a 4,212mm² VC cooling system, and a brand-new VC segmented bionic design. That setup improves the heat equalization effect by 4 times, says the company.

The under-display camera is actually a fourth-gen model. The pixel density of the selfie camera area is 400 ppi. Nubia also included a UDC Pro+ chip, which is used to power the display. It can run a 1×1 independent pixel drive. Speaking of which, a 16-megapixel under-display camera is used (2.24um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture).

It uses a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, and 960Hz touch sampling rate

The phone features a 6.8-inch fullHD+ (2480 x 1116) AMOLED display. This display offers a 20:9 aspect ratio, and it has a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone also offers a 960Hz touch sampling rate, which is insanely high. Gamers amongst you will certainly appreciate it. This display has a 10-bit color depth, and it can get quite bright at 1,500 nits of peak brightness.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC fuels the phone. That is Qualcomm’s most powerful chip. Nubia is offering 8GB, 12GB, and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM variants of this phone. Those three models come with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of UFS 4.0 flash storage, respectively.

Android 13 comes pre-installed on the phone, along with MyOS 13 skin. There are two SIM card slots (2x nano SIM) included here. An in-display fingerprint scanner is also a part of the package. The Nubia Z50 Ultra does have stereo speakers, and supports Bluetooth 5.2.

A 5,000mAh battery is used, and 80W charging supported

A 5,000mAh battery sits on the inside, and 80W wired charging is supported. Wireless charging doesn’t seem to be supported here, and reverse charging was also not mentioned.

A 64-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IMX787 sensor, OIS, f/1.6 aperture, 35mm lens) is backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (Samsung JN1 sensor, 116-degree FoV, f/2.2 aperture, 2cm macro). The third camera on the back is a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (OmniVision OV64B sensor).

The phone comes in Black and Silver color options, while the special edition Starry Sky model was also announced. The Nubia Z50 Ultra pricing starts at CNY3,999 ($577), and goes all the way up to CNY5,999 ($865) in China. This handset launched in China only, and chances are we won’t see it in other markets, but who knows.
