According to a new report, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a brand new main camera sensor. This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max could get a new main camera sensor
He claims that the iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra will feature the Sony IMX903 sensor. As a reminder, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has the Sony IMX803 sensor on the inside. That is a 1/1.28-inch sensor, while the IMX903 is tipped to be a 1/1.14 sensor.
So, it’s a considerably bigger sensor, thus should be able to capture more light and details too. This isn’t quite a 1-inch sensor that a number of other companies are using (IMX989), though Ice Universe seems to believe it’ll be almost as good.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra, OPPO Find X6 Pro, and Vivo X90 Pro(+) are leading the pack with 1-inch camera sensors at the moment. All three of those phones are doing a great job when it comes to photography, and it will be interesting to see what Apple can do with a new camera sensor.
The iPhone 15 Pro won’t have the same cameras as its sibling, it seems
Now, you will notice that the tipster did not mention the iPhone 15 Pro in his tweet. He was very specific to point towards the iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra only. The iPhone 15 Pro may not get that same main camera sensor.
That would be an odd move by Apple, as it usually offers the same optics on both of its ‘Pro’ phones. Not including the same optics this time around would create a considerable gap between the two phones, especially if that happens with the main camera.
If the iPhone 15 Pro doesn’t end up getting the IMX903 sensor, Apple will probably stick with the IMX803. It remains to be seen, but it would definitely be a shame, as it would force people to get a gigantic phone if they want the very best camera Apple has to offer.
