This Galaxy S24 upgrade should please power users

Samsung may have a pretty little upgrade in store for the Galaxy S24 series. The company is reportedly considering increasing the RAM amount by 4GB across the board. The base Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will come with 12GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra will boast 16GB of RAM. Their respective predecessors ship with 8GB, 8GB, and 12GB of RAM. The Korean firm last offered 16GB RAM with the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy S21 Ultra.

According to Twitter tipster @Tech_Reve, who shared this information, the new Samsung flagships will be available with the same amount of RAM regardless of the storage variant. The same is true for the 2023 models as well. However, we are expecting the Korean firm to bump up the storage for the base Galaxy S24 model next year. It offers the Galaxy S23 with 128GB and 256GB storage options. The 2024 model should be available in 256GB and 512GB storage variants.

As for the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra, there should be no change. Like the 2023 models, they should be available in 256GB/512GB and 256GB/512GB/1TB storage options, respectively. The latest rumor doesn’t go into storage details of Samsung’s next-gen flagships, but the source is confident about the RAM information. They say this isn’t an “unconfirmed” rumor like the ones that came out earlier.

If these early rumors about the Galaxy S24 RAM and storage options are true, we should be in for a notable performance gain next year. In theory, more RAM should mean better handling of background apps and smooth sustained performance even with heavy usage. Paired with a much-improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 “for Galaxy”, the Galaxy S24 series should deliver a massive performance boost over the Galaxy S23.

The Galaxy S24 series will bring more upgrades

RAM, storage, and processor aren’t the only upgrades the Galaxy S24 series will bring next year. Samsung is also reading big upgrades in the camera department. For starters, it plans to offer variable zoom with the new flagships, at least the Ultra model. A single zoom camera will allow optical zoom at all magnification levels between 3X and 10X. Currently, you get two separate zoom cameras for 3X and 10X zoom, with no optical zoom at other magnification levels.

Additionally, Samsung is also said to be considering including a variable aperture on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This tech existed on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S10 phones but subsequent models lacked it. It’s unclear if the base Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will also get a variable aperture and variable zoom. Stick around and find out.
