Galaxy S23 Ultra will soon get a major camera update

The next update for the Galaxy S23 Ultra could bring a host of camera-related changes. Tipster Ice Universe recently suggested that Samsung will greatly optimize the phone’s camera with a new update in June. We are expecting several new features, bug fixes, and quality improvements.

Samsung’s Galaxy S23 phones are among the best when it comes to camera performance, particularly the Ultra model. But that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. There have been a few issues, while the devices have lacked some basic features as well. The company did push a major camera update to the lineup in late March, but we still have a few complaints. Not least the halo effect issue and the lack of a 2x zoom option for portrait shots.

The Korean behemoth recently confirmed that it will soon address both of these complaints. On top of it, Samsung also said that it is working on improving the quality of zoomed videos. When recording videos in 2X zoom, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will automatically switch to 50MP resolution from 200MP before cropping the image. This will ensure minimal loss of detail. There have been rumors about Samsung working on improving low-light videos too.

While we don’t yet have a confirmation about whether all of these camera goodies will arrive with the same update for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the latest tweet from Ice Universe suggests Samsung has something big on the horizon. The new firmware build is reportedly “undergoing in-depth optimization” as we speak and roll out in June. The source has an excellent track record when it comes to Samsung leaks, so there’s little reason to doubt this claim. They reported the aforementioned March update for the Galaxy S23 series a few weeks before Samsung began the rollout.

The June update may finally fix the halo effect issue with the Galaxy S23 camera

Galaxy S23 cameras have had a weird HDR problem that produced a halo effect in photos since the beginning. The issue is particularly prominent in low-light photos where objects have a fine whitish border around them, which normally shouldn’t exist. Samsung didn’t fix this issue with the March update but recently confirmed that the “next update” for the Galaxy S23 lineup would address it. By the looks of it, the company is referring to the June firmware release for its latest flagships. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
