LEGO celebrates 43 years of Pac-Man with an arcade cabinet

LEGO has sets for all kinds of stuff and as of today that will now include an arcade cabinet based on the original Pac-Man game.

This isn’t a life size cabinet but rather one that is about the size of a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. At least in terms of height. It’s 13-inches tall, so just a few inches shorter than a PS5 console. The new set is part of the LEGO ‘Icons’ series and joins some of LEGO’s more challenging sets to put together. Like an Atari 2600, or the Titanic which is a whopping 9,090 pieces.

The LEGO Pac-Man Arcade will retail for $269.99 so it’s definitely one of the more expensive sets. Though not by comparison with the Titanic, Colosseum and a few others with triple the amount of pieces. LEGO says it will go on sale on June 4 and you’ll be able to order it directly from the online LEGO shop.

You can sort of play the LEGO Pac-Man Arcade

Sort of. Here’s some context. Back in 2020 LEGO made a replica NES system, complete with a controller, Super Mario Bros. game cart, and a mini TV that had Mario on the screen. The TV also included a little crank on the side you could turn to move Mario around.

The LEGO Pac-Man Arcade also has a crank you can turn to move Pac-Man and the little ghosts around. So you can sort of play it, but you aren’t really playing it as it’s not a true functional arcade cabinet. Still, it’s a fun detail that makes it more worthwhile.

There’s also a high score listing towards of the top, as well as a 4-way joystick and some buttons, and even a light up coin slot. Another neat little detail is the mini-scene you can build of a LEGO figure playing a Pac-Man arcade cabinet. This hides behind the back panel so you have a place to store it. Almost like the figure is in an arcade themselves!
