MediaTek confirms new Dimensity chip with the latest ARM tech

MediaTek recently launched the Dimensity 9200+ with a massive CPU and GPU boost over last year’s Dimensity 9200. The Taiwanese firm is now preparing to take things up a notch with its next-gen flagship smartphone chip, presumably called the Dimensity 9300. The new chip will arrive late in 2023 featuring the latest ARM tech.

Shortly after ARM unveiled the Total Compute Solutions 2023 (TCS23), which includes its fifth-gen mobile GPUs spearheaded by the Immortalis-G720 and a new cluster of Armv9 CPUs (Cortex-X4, Cortex-A720, and Cortex-A520), MediaTek took to Weibo to announce that its upcoming flagship Dimensity processor will use these CPU and GPU solutions.

The latest ARM tech heavily focuses on efficiency while giving you a notable performance boost. The Taiwanese semiconductor giant noted that and said that the next-gen smartphones will “truly benefit” from these improvements. MediaTek added that the new ARM CPU and GPU tech will be the foundation of the Dimensity 9300. The short video posted on Weibo doesn’t mention the Cortex-A520, but the improved efficiency core should make it into the new Dimensity processor along with its faster siblings.

MediaTek promises major performance and efficiency gains with the Dimensity 9300

According to MediaTek, the Dimensity 9300 will offer “groundbreaking architecture and innovations”. The company will leverage the new ARM CPUs to bring more efficient multitasking and improved performance of “heavily multi-threaded” apps and games. The new chip will “enable users to do more at once than ever before,” said MediaTek executive Dr. JC Hsu. It will deliver a smoother and faster smartphone experience along with “excellent” battery life.

Dr. Hsu added that the improved ray-tracing capabilities of the Immortalis-G720 GPU will fulfill the desire for an immersive gaming experience. All this without affecting the battery life or heating the phone “even during extended gaming sessions”. The Dimensity 9300 will “unlock incredible new mobile experiences later this year,” Dr. Hsu signed off. He didn’t reveal a launch timeline for the chip. But the company will probably unveil it in the first half of November.

The Dimensity 9300 will compete against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which will almost certainly use the latest ARM CPU and CPU solutions too. MediaTek hasn’t been able to go neck on neck with its American rival in the flagship segment. But it’s closing the gap with each new generation. Last year’s Dimensity 9200 was on par with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in some areas. It remains to be seen what the Taiwanese firm has in store this year.
